What is a Barefoot Training Specialist?

A Barefoot Training Specialist is a Health Professional who knows how to safely, effectively and specifically integrate barefoot programming for the benefit of corrective exercise and athletic performance!

Barefoot Training is not limited to running barefoot or wearing minimalist shoes, it is fast gaining worldwide recognition as a powerful aid to correct foot malfunction, ankle instability, low back pain and other lower extremity difficulties, working from the ground up (since the foot is the only part of the human body which makes contact with the ground).

Whilst not advocating that everyone walks around with no protection on their feet – scrutiny is being given worldwide to the fact that we humans clad our feet from birth in socks and shoes (not to mention thick soled rubber trainers) thus preventing a natural relationship between the foot and the earth (or surface) we walk on.  This severely dampens or can completely nullify our proprioception and neuromuscular response leading to abnormal gait patterns, timing and foot deformities.  Consequent lower limb biomechanical problems can result – all the way up to the body’s core!

How can a Barefoot Training Specialist help me?

Common conditions that can be rectified or at least alleviated with treatment and exercise planning include: Plantar Fasciitis, sore heels, over pronation, toe pain and flat feet related  conditions like functional hallux limitus.

What qualification is required to become a Barefoot Training Specialist?

You must already be a professional within the Fitness or Health Care industries.  Specialised courses / workshops are run on a worldwide basis, the programme developed and spearheaded by Dr Emily Splichal, Podiartrist and Human Movement Specialist, Founder of the Evidence Based Fitness Academy.

Training is based around the Specialist understanding that the neuromuscular system is a deeply integrated network of joints, fascia, muscles and nerves which work together to provide synchronised human movement.  Programmes of corrective exercises are formulated with agreement by the client but naturally results are dependent on the persistent work done by the client.
